Are you feeling like-

My Memory SUCKS!

  • How bad is your memory???

  • Does your brain feel slow?

  • Do you have problems recalling names...or dates...or words...or phone numbers?

  • Are you having more ‘senior moments’ than you care to admit – even if you’re age is nowhere near being a senior?

  • Are you more forgetful?

  • Do you ever forget where your keys are?

  • Forget why you walked into a room?

  • Forget why you just picked up your phone?

  • Do you ask a question, and then forget the answer 2 seconds later, and then have to ask the question again?

  • Do you find yourself searching for your words?

  • Are you worried that your memory will keep getting worse, and may lead to the dreaded A-word - Alzheimer’s?

Here’s The Good News:

These are all common signs of hormone imbalances that appear during menopause.

Here’s More Good News:

You can reverse these symptoms!

Here are some easy tools to help you start to regain your memory and supercharge your brain health! These tools changed my life, and I hope they change yours, too!

My struggle with memory:

When I started experiencing peri-menopause in my late 30’s my memory sucked, too! It was frustrating and embarrassing. It all started in 1999. I was working 12 hour days trying to run a business, moving into a new house and still feeling massively unfulfilled. It was an insane schedule! And a lot of pressure to succeed. I felt like I was drowning. Thinking back on it, I don’t even know how I did it all! I was the true definition of “burning the candle at both ends.” It was one of the most stressful times of my life. I told myself, “Angela, this is short-term pain for long-term gain. You just have to suck it up! This is your dream! Just keep your eye on the prize!” So that’s what I did. I worked extra hard…and paid my dues… But by the time I sold the wholesale business and shut down the restaurant, my batteries were nearly DEAD and so was my bank account. I was both physically and mentally exhausted! And, I was struggling with my brain... My memory SUCKED!

Besides a sucky memory I also had:

  • Foggy Brain

  • Poor Concentration

  • No Motivation

  • Easily Distracted.

I relied on post-it notes and lists; otherwise I would forget things, important things. Seriously though, I was forgetting LOTS of stuff. I put sticky notes and lists EVERYWHERE!! – my computer... my car... my telephone... my bathroom mirror!

I’d ask my husband a question, and then forget his answer, so I’d ask him again. He’d get upset and thought I wasn’t listening to him – but I was! I was listening! It was my MEMORY that SUCKED!

I was worried. “Would my MEMORY ever be normal again?” “Would my BRAIN ever be normal again?”

It’s what I did next that changed everything... I made a conscious decision to find some answers. And once I determined all the pieces of the puzzle, and all the root, underlying causes for my sucky memory and poor brain health... It was like a light bulb turned on inside my brain! My brain was clear… And energized... And I felt fully present again… And my motivation and drive were back... And my memory was back! I finally felt like my old self!

My advice for you is… Don’t give up! You should have hope. There IS a reason why you have your symptoms. My other advice is… Be patient. It takes time to figure it all out.

For most menopausal women there are multiple reasons why their memory sucks. Sometimes it really can be a needle in a haystack to figure it out. It may be the need for a simple supplement like Acetylcholine or a dietary change or further testing to see what your hormone levels are. But that needle IS there, waiting to be found. Keep digging for it - you will eventually find it! And then feel normal again! And get your memory back! And get your life back!

The journey to find the needle changed my life. I left the restaurant business and went into holistic health. It is my mission to help menopausal women regain their vibrancy. Let me tell you a little bit more about me... I’m A Self Professed Aromatherapy Nerd and Over Achiever. I hold four professional certifications – they are for Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Reiki and IIN Health Coach. I teach at Oregon School of Massage and am the author of Aromatherapy for Menopause Success” and a public speaker.

Most of my clients tell me their ‘memory sucks’! Let me share a few of the steps I took to help myself recover.

Ways to start taking positive steps:

Aromatherapy was my first step to regaining concentration. Essential oils that lift that brain fog and improve concentration include Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Saro, Rosemary, Bergamot and Laurel. I used aroma points to apply the oils. Here is a protocol that really gave me a memory boost. I used that twice a day AM & PM for 14 days and soon the post it notes disappeared. Place a drop of diluted oil on your fingertips and hold it on the point for 1-3 minutes.

Bergamot on Ear Shenmen

Laurel on Yin Tang

Rosemary on GV16

In addition I diffused Eucalyptus, Peppermint & Saro during morning while at my desk. If you are interested in learning more about how essential oils may support your journey pick up a copy of my book or check out the online courses available here.

My next step was to clean up my diet and include more brain health supporting foods like good fats. Omegas. I ate more wild caught salmon, sardines and included good vegetable fats such as avocados and olive oil. No more fried food for me.

I learned how to do deep breathing exercises and increase the oxygen to my brain and get a chance to be out in nature to lower stresses on my body and my brain. Tai Chi and Qigong exercises and a daily Reiki practice help improve brain health and recalibrate other body systems.

I guess you can see by now that brain health and hormone balance are multifaceted. There is no quick fix, no magic pill and I’d be lying to you if I said there was. But doing your research, sticking to a healthy plan and tracking the results will get you to a healthier, happier you.
